I decided not to for 2 reasons.

1) We don't yet know for sure if Kavanaugh will be confirmed, though news coverage makes it seem likely.

2) I question whether it's just raw emotion talking (i.e., Is this really comparable to the election of Trump, which pushed me into a deep depression for several weeks?).

But there can be no doubt that this is an enormous moment, and we are talking about a lifetime appointment to the highest court. I am worried sick.

But this time I am staying sober. There is too much to do.

I thought about the hacking, too. I wonder if we will be hacked if he is confirmed. I hope not. But there will be such a call to activism here that someone may want to try it to keep us from organizing. It is too late for that. All the mechanisms are already in place for for a hell of a lot of activism.

Maybe each of us should be sure we have real life contacts with some friends here, just in case we want to vent.

This is one of the larger consequences of that other day of infamy, but it is not on the same scale.

We were robbed of a lifetime opportunity to (1) have the first woman president, (2) elect the most pre-qualified candidate for that job that any of us living have seen, with the possible exception of those who saw Eisenhower elected, (3) make an emergency course correction for climate change, (4) correct atrocious neglect of infrastructure, (5) extend health care to many more citizens, (6) restore a progressive income tax that more fairly distributes the burden, (7) advance renewable energy sources, (8) correct an imbalance in the SCOTUS so that it more nearly reflects citizenry, (9) expand the ability of voters to vote, (10) expand and improve educational opportunities for all citizens.

Of course, many of those things above would require a Democratic majority in at least one house of Congress and some Republicans willing to do their jobs for the good of the country. Only the first 2 above were certainly stolen from us. The rest may have been.

The theft of 1 Supreme Court seat was made before that election day of infamy. This one may or may not be stolen. We don't know for certain the facts surrounding Justice Kennedy's retiring.

Kavanaugh was made possible by the grand theft of 2016. He is nowhere near as significant as being robbed of having President Hillary Clinton.
