The second most-powerful Republican in the US Senate, John Cornyn, says the chamber will meet on Saturday to vote on a procedural motion on Kavanaugh’s nomination.

The Senate will vote on a motion to proceed, one of the steps leading to a full chamber vote on the nomination itself, Reuters reported.

WASHINGTON — Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will face a new FBI background investigation before a Senate confirmation vote is held, a key Senator said Friday.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said "there's going to be a supplemental FBI background investigation" of Kavanaugh, who faces several allegations of sexual misconduct, that would not last longer than one week. Cornyn, the majority whip, spoke after he and several other key Senate Republicans met with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Word of the new FBI involvement came hours after Kavanaugh was approved Friday by the Senate Judiciary Committee on an 11-10 party-line vote.

During that meeting, Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., called for the full Senate vote to be delayed for one week to allow time for the FBI to reopen its background investigation into Kavanaugh.

Right along the lines of, "We'll give him a fair trial, then the hangin'. " A whole week for the FBI to investigate, then what? A floor vote anyway? What if the investigation turns up evidence and indications, hints and allegations of serious wrongdoing? Go ahead with the vote on Judge Kreepazoid with the excuse that now he's been investigated seven times and is still walking the streets as a free man?
