yesterday also, and an angry voice didn't fool me), I'd tell them to stop and restate in a proper tone of voice. If they still weren't behaving, it was quiet time in bed until they could admit and discuss what they were doing and why it was unacceptable. Couldn't get at Brett, but boy I wondered why his parents hadn't put a stop to it.

My kids were never the kind of person, though, who'd brighten up and get cocky again whenever he realized Grassley was rescuing him from his struggle to come up with a good lie. How do parents turn it around when nature hands them a moral dud?

Yuck. What a thought. My kids are such incredibly better people.
