Conservative media personalities are attacking calls by a bipartisan group of senators for the FBI to investigate allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh following Thursdays hearing with the nominee and Christine Blasey Ford, who testified that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her in the 1980s.
A day after Thursdays hearing, where Fords testimony was widely acknowledged as credible and Kavanaugh misled the senators in his own testimony, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send Kavanaughs nomination to the Senate floor for a final vote. Following some last-minute drama,Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) announced he was voting to send Kavanaughs nomination to the full Senate for a vote under the condition that the FBI spend up to a week investigating current allegations against the judge. Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) also voiced support for Flakes call for a delay on the floor vote so that the FBI can investigate.
Conservative media personalities, a couple of whom had smeared or discounted the women who reported sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh, quickly attacked the calls for the FBI investigation and called for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to ignore the request and quickly hold a vote to confirm Kavanaugh:
Fox News host Sean Hannity: Now we need one more week, why so another 15 people can be brought up by Democratic operatives?

(2,504 posts)I'm pretty sure it won't be Democratic operatives bringing them out. This is in the FBI's hands now.

(50,989 posts)acknowledge the existence of their reactions and stop worrying about the effect they will have. We need to treat them as what they are: cult leaders for a cult that is steadily losing ground and whose stridency reflects its fear for its own existence.

(50,989 posts)Which, as you say, is necessary to being informed. Beyond that, though, we shouldn't give a shit about them.
Sorry if that was unclear.

(60,536 posts)advocating a "just ignore them, they'll go away" policy. I'm glad you clarified that, thanks. How many people, do you think, know that Sham Hannity was a follower of white nationalist Hal Turner? I say "was a follower" because Sham claims he's renounced those beliefs. I don't believe him for a nano-second

(5,969 posts)Kavanaugh doesn't want an investigation or take a polygraph. The R senators don't want an investigation and use the lie as an excuse that the Dems sat on these allegations. It's apparent that one side doesn't want to find out the truth. Using time as an excuse to put someone on the SC who is credibly accused is beyond words.
I think it was Durbin who directly asked Kavanaugh whether he is afraid of what may come out in these investigations. I think they know what could come out.

It's OK if he fucks other people, but he wants to get a pass.

(129,291 posts)they have thrown just about every party policy they had, under the bus, when it had to be applied to them. At this point, the bus is now sitting on top of a mountain of their discards, including past GOP Presidents and GOP gurus.
