It seems to me there is more than enough to alarm

people about BK as he is today, let alone what he did in high school. LA Times focuses on his attitude toward drinking beer, which does not seem normal (unless you are an alcoholic):

http://www.latimes.com/local/abcarian/la-me-abcarian-kavanaugh-beer-20180928-story.html

Like a lot of people who have lived with or been friends with people who love beer a little too much, I experienced some familiar, unpleasant emotions as I watched the Supreme Court nominee’s behavior disintegrate Thursday in his Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

1. I agree... Many a man of my late father's circle, convinced themselves they had no alcohol "problem"

because all they drank was beer. Despite the fact they drank incredible amounts of beer EVERY day (though, I'd guess most not at work). This has long been a mistaken notion.

However, with Kav, I have a hard time thinking he is and was not-- a hard liquor boozer, along WITH the beer.

“If you drink a lot of beer, you drink a lot.”

Don’t know who said that, but it is so true. My late alcoholic father, who died of alcoholism, I remember him drinking beer.

Don't you like beer, I like beer, beer, beer, beer...

At least that's what I got from BK's testimony.

I remember those exact same looks from a number of alcoholics when they weren't getting their pretzel logic across to others. Having been enslaved by a brutally abusive alcoholic parent, I had a hard time watching but was also kind of glad he showed his true self... which makes me also think that he was not sober during the Thursday afternoon session when he lost it.

deflect attention away from the fact that he drank the hard stuff and would therefore be considered more of a "problem drinker". Like many hard-core alcoholics, he thinks beer is almost as benign as fruit juice.

8. He probably drinks at home.

He's a "respectable" family man now and not going to anymore frat parties or keggers. People like him can hold their liquor very well at the occasional cocktail party or dinner. He is most likely a functional alcoholic. Either that or a dry drunk. I'm not an expert, but something about his behavior and personality tells me he does not have a normal relationship with alcohol.

9. Many alcoholics drink beer only. They convince themselves their drinking is not that bad

cause they don’t touch the hard stuff, like a “bad” alcoholic does. Yet they are just as much an alcoholic.
