My 28 yr old son gets it.

We had an interesting text exchange yesterday while I was at work. He is appalled by anything and everything to do with Trump. He has been following the Kavanaugh debacle. Here is one of his texts:

That’s what bothers me most about the whole “boys will be boys” or “what did she expect would happen” bullshit that gets trotted out every time something like this happens. How are more men not upset by that implication, that we’re animals who cant control our impulses? It’s like we’re supposed to accept that men around women are thought of in the same way as a dog who steals meat off the kitchen table. “Well, it was inevitable, shouldn’t have left the meat there where he could get at it.” It frankly sickens me.

So sick of hearing Kavanaugh was only a “Boy” when attending the party. Damn it all, if he had killed Christine, he would have been tried as an ADULT!

One of the things that sickens me about the US justice system is its vastly unequal application.

and those laws were being enforced back then, too. I knew kids who got sent away when this happened to classmates in high school in the '60's.

I didn’t touch anyone in a sexual way because I knew it was wrong.

Kavanaugh is a sexual predator.

...occasionally when things got "hot" I heard the word, "stop," and I stopped. It wasn't that hard to do because it was the right thing to do. I'm not a god-damned animal, and my father taught me to respect women, as he respected women, and as my sons respect women.

The last person who told me to "stop" went on later to become my wife, and I'm sure that one reason I got to "go" was that I knew when to stop.

I've been living with my wife for 34 years, and in those years, there have been times that she wasn't "in the mood," and that's perfectly fine and, in fact, quite wonderful, because we have a relationship based on trust and respect.

One almost feels sorry for the people who don't understand what that is like, a relationship of trust and respect.

I can't say that I am personally aware of any man who did not know what the word "stop," means. I know they exist, and it appears that the national Republican party seems to be a haven for this type, but I know lots and lots and lots of men who understand the word "stop."

(As it happens, a fellow student of my wife's at UCSD threatened her explicitly with rape, using the word "rape." When she reported it to her professor, he said it wasn't his problem. So I do know that there are assholes; as the members of our government are willing to publicly display themselves as being. Still, I think it should be clear that most men aren't Trumpian Kavanaughesque scale assholes. Suffice it to say that my wife graduated from another university. That, happily, is the only time I've heard of such a thing in my personal experience, even a threat of the rape of a woman, although I'm sure there's lots of similar events that I don't know about.)

I agree. I hate that whole fucking excuse of boys will be boys or she dressed like a slut or what did she expect. Here's my response to that, raise your fucking boys right and teach them that rape or anything of the sort is fucking wrong. And that these old farts that are pushing this POS through need to be smacked in the head.
