With the FBI investigation now expanded, our worst case scenario is he loses confirmation 52-48 on the senate floor. The more likely scenario is Trump pulls his nomination. Hes more likely to resign as an appeals judge than sit on the SCOTUS.
As a wise DUer said, he cannot withstand what is swirling around him.
Not sure why so many are conceding defeat on Kavanaugh in the 3rd quarter?

(12,344 posts)We are in the uncomfortable position of relying on a handful of Republican Senators shutting down a nominee they actually want.

(22,597 posts)Reality sucks but it is what it is. I think there are too many who live in a fantasy land where if they wish and hope something will happen badly enough it will. I just don't see that happening here but I'm prepared to be surprised.

They always let Dear Leader have his way.
Always.

(1,997 posts)weve seen the repubs lie, cheat and steal so often that it is hard to remain optimistic. For instance, its possible that Flake is just deflecting and will use the skimpy FBI investigation to claim that no wrongdoing was done, so he feels fine voting for confirmation, bringing Collins and Murkowski along with him. Wouldnt surprise me at all.

(1,835 posts)If we had lost that, Id be far less hopeful. That combined with the fact that Flake forced an expanded FBI investigation is what I hang my hat on.
Its not over but theres a lot of reason to hope and feel confident. I understand being on edge about this though. Totally got ya there.
Also, if all is good, why was Trump even more hysterical than usual today?

(58,785 posts)They apparently desperately need to satisfy their base, and they are thus doing their best to force his confirmation through. Success would have trumpsters victory dancing all over the nation and jazzed to go vote. They will blame failure, if it occurs (I think it will), on evil machinations by the Democrats. Trump's always a wild card, of course.

(32,727 posts)should have provided hope to even the hardest realists/cynics.
The only (somewhat disgusting) question we should be asking ourselves is would we prefer trump to install an impeachable asshole or a choir boy/gal asshole. That depends on how much time is in the clock.
Can we prevent any more action on nominees for the rest of the year?
