Lindsey Graham: Trump Should Renominate Kavanaugh If He Loses

Senator Lindsey Graham said President Donald Trump should renominate Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court if he loses the confirmation vote by a narrow margin and go directly to American voters to ask their view.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night, Graham said if Kavanaugh were to fall one vote short in his Senate confirmation, he would urge Trump to “appeal the case to the American people.”

Kavanaugh is accused by Christine Blasey Ford of sexual assault, which she says occurred when the two were teenagers in high school. He denies the allegations, which are now under investigation by the FBI. Two other women, Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick, have also made allegations against Kavanaugh, which he denies. Only Ford and Ramirez will be interviewed by the FBI.

The accusations against Kavanaugh threaten to derail his confirmation to the Supreme Court. Republicans claim Democrats are orchestrating a character assassination of Kavanaugh based on little or no evidence because he is a conservative. But opponents of Kavanaugh say there is enough evidence of serious wrongdoing that he should withdraw from the process.

9. America Has Already Spoken

From what I am seeing the American people have already spoken. Supposedly the polls are showing that the majority of Americans do not want Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. I think Donald Trump's best bet, if Kavanaugh is defeated, is to move on and try to get someone else on the Supreme Court. If he renominated Brett Kavanaugh and went to the American people he might run out of time to get someone on the Supreme Court before Democrats take over Congress. After Democrats take over Congress they could at least try to force Trump to nominate someone likely as moderate as Anthony Kennedy.
