And, yes, the alert came in the middle of Brian Williams program. Second time in a while. Wonder whether Comcast is trying to sabotage his program.

(90,705 posts)CONELRAD used to do the radio broadcasts for our occasional tsunami alerts, so I remember them from my childhood.
Wired magazine has a comprehensive history of doomsday planning out today -- it came up on my cell phone, so I have no idea how to direct you to it.
I did not know that FEMA is semi-secretly in charge of planning for doomsday and other national disasters just short of doomsday, and that they are the direct descendent of CONELRAD.
It started at the beginning of the Cold War, when the main fear was of nuclear annhilation. Very interesting stuff about the attempts to use technological advances. This is just the latest iteration.

(16,954 posts)apparently had also received it and turned to another woman with her and all I could understand her say was "Trump" -- they were speaking Spanish and I don't speak Spanish. I'm assuming she got the same text as I did at the same time walking to the cashiers and her description of her phone message included "Trump". She sounded very disgusted and looked up from her phone to alert her shopping buddy of the message. They talked about it (appeared to be talking about it), but I couldn't understand the rest. LOL, it's a long walk to the cashiers at IKEA, so I saw all this in front of me as I was approaching and walking by. Yeah, a derogatory reference to Trump in any language is recognizable.
