Almost half of Americans now oppose confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, a figure that has climbed in the past month, according to a national Quinnipiac University Poll released Tuesday.
Forty-eight percent of those surveyed said Kavanaugh should not be on the high court, compared to 42 percent who support his confirmation. The opposition has climbed six points since a poll taken in early September.
The gender divide is a chasm. Women oppose the Kavanaugh confirmation by a 55-37 percent margin. By contrast, 49 percent of men back him for the high court, with 40 percent opposed.
Voters in the poll, by a 59-25 percent margin, say that Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is honest in her recollection of an attempted rape by Kavanaugh.
