Maybe McConnell knows it's going to fail and wants to get it over with quick?

I think there's only three ways this can go.

1 they all vote Yes cram him through and the entire country freaks the fuck out.

2 even The Limited FBI report is so damaging that they don't have the votes and they make a deal with Kavanaugh to drop out.

3 McConnell knows he does not have the votes, has the vote anyway and lets it fail. Firing up the right-wing base to show up to the elections. And maybe force a new nominee very quickly before the midterms.

Kavanaugh becomes a sacrificial lamb but so be it. McConnell told Trump not to pick this dude in the first place. He has to be mad.

I just wouldn't be surprised to see option number three.

McConnell wants to end this shit show as soon as possible.

"Mr. McConnell has spoken to Mr. Trump or Mr. McGahn, or both, every day since Justice Kennedy announced on June 27 that he was retiring from the court. He has counseled them that there is no margin of error because the timing of the Senate’s court vote is so close to an election that could hand control of the chamber to Democrats."

McConnell would delay the vote unfortunately it looks like FBI only got a he said, she said and they only recorded the testimonies in the report and let the Senators make up their minds

They’re going to ram him through. Flake, Collins, Murkowski and Manchin are gutless. The entire country is not going to freak out, just our half. Their base is already fired up about this, the enthusiasm gap is gone. This is all win/win for them.

We need to fight like hell to at least squeak out the House, otherwise it’s game over.

We must get the vote out.

will say that the leadership couldn't bring home the bacon even though they own Congress and the WH. I think that the base will stay home on election day from concluding that the GOP can't give them their wet dream-- whatever that is. They'll be discouraged. My God. They own Congress and the WH, and can't unzip their pants.

If they ram Kavanaugh through this week, then it's back to Russia and Trump's twitter disasters and there will be nothing to keep their base enthused come November.

If they somehow lose the Kavanaugh vote, then any rage at Democrats will be balanced out by the base's rage at the "traitorous GOP swamp" that failed their Great Orange God-King.

And either way, enthusiasm among Democratic-leaning female voters is going up as well.

Rush it through immediately at all costs, and watch the so-called "moderates" fold like cheap suits.

McConnell knows his party. He knows the ritual kabuki dance Collins and Murkowski do every time they are required to vote in lockstep, he knows the empty posturing of cowards like Flake and Corker. Hell, Flake openly admitted he wouldn't have done the right thing if he wasn't leaving office. And McConnell knows that, as repugnant as Kavanaugh is, he's thoroughly mainstream by Republican standards. Even many never-Trumpers are prepared to fight to the death for this nomination.

McCain was an outlier: a Republican at the end of both his Senate career and his life who despised Trump and didn't want his final act to be something as monstrous as taking healthcare away from millions of people.

White wash. Even if the FBI wanted go deep with investigations, they were hamstrung by Shell-company-in-Chief. Now, if the Dems get a hold of Congress this fall, they should go balls to the walls with investigations into several things that need looking into by a Democratic majority. NOT allow thuglicans to embarrass them out of the investigations that MUST be done to see just how bad of a condition thuglicans left the Congress in.

Johnny Walker Red gets on the High Court where he won't recuse himself. Just our side is goaded into it and we actually do it (Kagan recused herself many times on several High Court rulings). WHY do Dems do the el foldo when thuglicans tell them that they're doing something wrong (which they aren't)

Anyway, Dems better pivot and campaign on something that will get our peeps out to vote in high numbers besides this High Court Ram through of a whiny, lying, sexually assaulting, Federalist, drunkard as if that wasn't enough.

They have the votes, and confirmation emboldens Trump to spend a solid month until election day chirping that everything is a similar disgraceful witch hunt that is wasting time and will lead nowhere.

That was a risk I posted a week ago. We were better off with no FBI investigation and a Kavanaugh confirmation crammed through quickly under protest and dismay than some type of limited sham investigation with an official document attached.

I have no idea how anyone can believe the entire country will freak out. That was out the window once the FBI got involved.

Jeff Flake could have unwittingly helped Trump toward an election like James Comey, although not to same degree.

I would have to take a guess and say that the majority of people here would be considered "Political Junkies" or at least in the know of what is going on around them. However, there is a huge portion of the US population, that.

Just.
Doesn't.
Care.

Sure, people can say that they are outraged at Kavanaugh's behavior. However, has that stopped Trump or his increasingly bizarre/bad behavior? No. Does that mean that Republicans are emboldened by this and will cram Kavanaugh through? I don't know.

I hope I am just being overly pessimistic and Kavanaugh is not confirmed, and they all lived happily ever after.

nominate another judge who holds the same opinions who might more easily get confirmed. I’m almost hoping they do confirm him because then we can launch a thorough investigation in the House instead of the sham that was conducted. Otherwise Kavanaugh’s just going to go back to the circuit and wreak more damage there. We’re screwed no matter what the outcome is.
