(664 posts)1. Are you referring to King George III of England?
A man who suffered with bouts of mental illness?
He was a King! And when he seemed to be out of whack, they beat him, locked him away in dungeons and otherwise mistreated him until he started to act "normal"...
Also, I think the state of Georgia is named for him...

That way they never have to think, just follow and cheer any crazy rule the King makes. Our Patriots died in vain to make this country free and self thinking.

The Queen of the George I' m thinking about was Queen Sofi Charlotte and the city of Charlotte, NC was named for her - Is this George II as well?

(19,479 posts)5. George II's wife was Caroline
His mother was Sophia.
George III's wife was Sophia Charlotte.
Georgia, the 13th colony, was founded in 1732. From something online:
It had been more than five decades since the British had established a new colony. James Edward Oglethorpe, a philanthropist and an English general, along with twenty-one other men, created a charter to settle a new colony which they named Georgia in honor of King George II. The grant established land between the Savannah and Altamaha rivers as well as the waters of these rivers.
Charlotte was named after George III's wife, though:
In the hopes of currying favor with King George III, the areas settlers named their town Charlotte, after the kings wife. Located in the new county of Mecklenburg along the Catawba River in south central North Carolina, Charlotte became known as the Queen City."
