shenanigans, I believe the entire nation owes Hillary a huge apology. She put out over thirty years of financial information and it still wasn't enough. Today I heard that some people in various offices are wondering if they should push to get Trump's tax return. Well, hell yeah! While you're at it, get Sanders' and Stein's. For our elections to work, we need fair standards to judge by. No candidate should be given the passes that were meted out in 2016 by any party. We are fools if we let this happen again.

(11,495 posts)If a candidate doesn't show their tax returns they should not be on the ballot! Those who have something to hide are the only ones who don't want to show their returns. Seeing the problems with trump should prove things need to change.
I think all candidates for elected federal office, all cabinet secs, and federal court justices (incl supreme court) must have complete
public disclosure of financials
complete medical exam including a complete cognitive assessment
(disclosure is a problem)
A very thorough SSBI
(Lifetime appointments require periodic refresh of all of these or appointment is terminated automatically)
Ideally, you couldn't get on the ballot or be eligible for Senate approval unless all are completed, and no disqualifying items found.
This is very difficult, because there are privacy, constitutional, social, and qualitative/subjective issues involved. System is subject to gaming. However, I think we have to move in this direction.
The financials & ssbi will eliminate a lot of psychopaths. That might hurt the country a little.

(9,426 posts)with the SC, then tell us HOW anything is going to change? Kavenaugh will be seated on the SC, forbid any investigations into tRump or his family, and the grand old pricks will continue on their path of destruction. We need to STOP McConnell in his power grab over the court. The entire fiasco is a farce. Lindsey Graham is obviously privy to the information, since he is forging ahead backing sex perverts Kavenaugh and tRump. We may never know what the HELL is going on behind closed doors, until the country is on its' last legs.

(11,495 posts)The only way to do that is get out and vote. If all those who sat out the 2016 election had actually voted, we wouldn't be where we are today. Let's make sure that doesn't happen again.

(8,916 posts)No election is a national election.
The federal government does not make election rules or counts ballots.
In California, we passed a law that says, you can not be on the Presidential ballot
unless you disclose your tax returns.
I'm sure the r's are going to file a lawsuit to keep from disclosing IQ45's tax returns,
or they risk losing all CA's electoral college votes in the process.
The rest of the states should do the same, if they haven't already.
R's always say it's about STATES RIGHTS, now is their chance to prove it.
