The Republican Party is cutting off money to multiple incumbent lawmakers running for re-election as polls show their races slipping away in the face of a possible Democratic blue wave.
The Hill reports that the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) canceled a $1.2 million ad buy for Kansas Rep. Kevin Yoder, who trails rising Democratic Party star Sharice Davids, an ex-MMA fighter who could become the first lesbian Native American in Congress. Davids was among the first 250 candidates endorsed by former President Barack Obama.
Yoder, a four-term congressman, won his last re-election by 10 points but saw Hillary Clinton narrowly carry the suburban Kansas City district in her race against President Donald Trump.
The race is the second suburban district with an incumbent Republican that the NRCC has abandoned.
