"...firming up Kavanaugh's likelihood for Supreme Court. votes." That's pretty much it for this battle. You can't win it without the numbers, especially when you're trying to peel numbers away from the opposition. All the usual RW pundits are hammering away with their bullshit "get out and vote and save America from communism" message to their dimwitted audience. Democrats/progressives MUST vote in massive numbers; it cannot be stressed enough.

Los Angeles Times OCT 04, 2018Senators on Thursday began reviewing a confidential FBI report into sexual assault and misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, President Trumps nominee to the Supreme Court, as tensions built before a procedural vote scheduled for Friday that will likely signal whether he can be confirmed.
There were growing signs by midday Thursday that two wavering Republicans were satisfied with the FBI report, raising hopes at the White House that they were falling into line and would back Kavanaugh, ending what has become a bitter partisan battle over the future of the nations highest court in the #MeToo era.
A single copy of the hotly anticipated report, which the FBI produced in less than a week, was delivered to Capitol Hill before dawn Thursday and placed in a secure room. Democrats and Republicans took turns reviewing the contents, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said they did not plan to release the report despite urging from both sides of the aisle.
A final vote on the nomination is expected on Saturday, but the results probably will be telegraphed early Friday with the procedural vote on whether to proceed.

(9,895 posts)WHEN the shoe is on the other foot (and it always swings back eventually) we had better be ready to plant it firm;y up the GOP/Right Wing ass...I mean far enough that they are tasting shoe leather and have laces coming out of their mouths...
The next SCOTUS pick put forth from a Democrat better be to the left of everyone to EVER sit on the court, period. And fuck the GOP and their bleating about it...they had better get as much or more than they have given.
If not, if the party comes to the next fight mealy-mouthed and meek and submissive (like we were in the face of the Garland heist), then it will absolutely be time to throw out everyone in leadership roles because they will have failed to learn a damn thing from this tragedy...

Leave it to Republicans they have now, once and for all completely transformed what should be an utterly neutral branch of government into yet another highly partisan right-wing allied body. Yes, its been political for some time, but with each right wing judge brought on board, the outcomes of cases are so rubber-stamped that its a slam dunk for Republicans. And those jerkwads have the gall to gripe about liberals legislating from the bench? WTF!
Now, the fucking fascist SCOTUS cant even give a fair shake to what the majority of Americans want.

He can go to hell really all of the repigs can go to hell, what's next on the chopping block, our security net, like SS, and the like. Like Carlin said they want it all, but are we going to give it to them??? Let them not think we will give up everything that we have worked for, and past generations.

Susan Collins is not up for re-election this year. She's up in 2020, and she may retire by then.
I often listen to a show on a local NPR station. It's called Brody and Eagan. One of the hosts makes a great argument for term limits. The argument is that if you know you can't run again, then you don't have to raise money and you can truly represent your constituents.
