(10,849 posts)...helicopters already have a higher crash rate then airplanes and Russian maintained and built ones even more so.

(386 posts)Russian planes and helos are more prone to failure than ours. But most of their pilots are good, given what they're working with.
I find it interesting the helo contained only the pilot, the Depty AG, and a single other passenger. That little collateral damage would be highly acceptable to Putin.
And unfortunately we'll never get to know the cause with any certainly. If this is the Kremlin's work, their aircraft crash investigation report will say whatever they want it to say. And over there of course there's no chance of an opposition party taking the legislature and forcing out truth. (Vote! Vote like American democracy depends on it!)
(Edit to add: When a helicopter is falling, it's generally safer to be in a helo than being in a falling plane... occupant survivability is higher. That's due to something called autorotation... the air thru the helo's long blades spin them even without power, which slows the rate of fall considerably, and the pilot does a last second yank on the controls that soften the impact further. If you're falling completely out of control, though, or, say, your pilot is for unexplained reasons incapacitated, yeah, you're about as fucked as in a crashing plane.)

(386 posts)Hoping this isn't a suggestion from the Master to his adoring paduwan.
"As you see Donald, my authoritarian apprentice, you needn't always cause yourself trouble by removing a problem openly. Accidents... which cannot be attributed to you... can always happen in such an uncertain world as the one we live in. For example, look at my own deputy attorney general -- such a shame."
I mean, Trump already has a history of sending thugs who threatened bodily harm to multiple people or their families. Including a new mother. Does Vlad thinks it's time for Donny to take his next step?
Rod Rosenstein, maybe don't get into helicopters until your role in Trump-Russia is completely over? And, don't go out on high balconies. And, try to avoid plutonium-tipped umbrellas. And neurotoxin-sprayed doorknobs. Etc.
In light of everything else Trump's willing to do, I've wondered if and when this stuff actually starts happening here. So, I'm only half joking above. Maybe a little bit less than half.

(386 posts)In light of everything else Trump's been willing to do, or encourage.
He's given away his craving to see his followers/mobs physically punish people any number of times. But in particular I'm thinking of his unprompted public statement that if Hillary wins and appoints Scotus justices the rightwing doesnt want to tolerate, hey, the 2nd Amendment guys can always do something.
(And our country STILL electoralcolleged the baby Mussolini into office. **shudder**)
