Catholic bishop absolves Kavanaugh of culpability in alleged rape attempt...he was a drunk teen

Catholic bishop absolves Kavanaugh of culpability in alleged rape attempt because he was a drunk teen at the time

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/10/catholic-bishop-absolves-kavanaugh-culpability-alleged-rape-attempt-drunk-teen-time/

Writing on his personal blog, a prominent Catholic bishop in Florida absolved fellow Catholic Brett Kavanaugh of his alleged sin of allegedly attempting to rape Christine Ford, saying he was a teen at the time who was reportedly drunk and therefore not entirely culpable.

As pointed out by Hemant Mehta at the Friendly Atheist, Bishop Donald J. Sanborn who currently serves as rector at a seminary he purchased in Brooksville, Florida, from which he travels around the country to meet with other clergymen to spread God’s word.

In his post on Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh, Sanborn curiously begins by professing that he knows little about the embattled federal judge, before saying he’s not a fan because “Although he comes highly recommended in conservative circles, the fact that liberal neocon George W. Bush supports his nomination is disquieting.”

However, the Catholic cleric found a reason to appreciate the nomination of Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court by adding, “On the other hand, the hatred that the Leftists have for him is reassuring.”

For Bart to get absolution, he would have to confess his sin and feel real sorrow.

It can't happen in absentia (and without asking for absolution). That's not how the sacrament works.

A sign of the times, Republican women are my greatest disappointment because of their lack of self-worth and complicity.

The Pope is a sorry excuse for a Christian religious leader. imo

I haven't been a catholic for a long, long time! But how can this clown absolve Kavanaugh of a sin that he adamantly claims he didn't commit?

If I recall correctly, you actually had to confess to committing a sin to be absolved of it, right?

Another reprobate hiding behind a religion. Destined to be just another demon in the afterlife.

He's a fraud. Why did Rawstory not research this even a little bit? This is truly fake news.

I hope someone in the RC Church hierarchy addresses this. It's appalling.

I do understand how Rawstory got it wrong. An internet search identifies him as a RC priest. You have to dig beyond the first few words

that should be the first red flag if Rawstory had someone on staff who knew something about how Catholicism works: seminaries aren't run by individuals. Calling GWB a "neoliberal" should be another one. And bishops are generally associated with specific dioceses: this lapsed Catholic has never before encountered a free-lance bishop who travels around the country.
