2. Trump as president and leader of the Republican Party has the option of nominating another judge from the Federalist Society.
3. Endorse Trump's prophecy of a "Red Wave" in November, so there's no problem in voting for the contingency candidate.

McConnell and the gop have gone scorched earth on this vote. Not only are they threatening to primary anyone who votes no, they will make sure they have zero employment options once they leave the senate. No law firm offers, no lobbying firm opportunities, no teaching or speaking options, no anything tied to conservative dollars.
Losing their committee assignments and even their seats is a small price comparred to what the gop is prepared to do. Trump may have even threatened an fbi investigation of five.
They will vote yes. It doesn't matter what they think or want. They are being blackmailed to an extent seldom seen.
