New health plans sold through Iowas Farm Bureau will be able to ask applicants if they have any pre-existing conditions.
According to a checklist posted online by the Farm Bureau, applicants will be asked about a list of conditions related to mental health, blood pressure, reproductive system, lungs or the respiratory system, among others.
In an interview with the Des Moines Register, Farm Bureau Vice President Steve Kammeyer said some applicants for the new coverage could be turned away or face higher premiums if they have pre-existing health issues. He could not say which conditions would trigger those actions.
According to the checklist, if an applicant says they have been treated for any of the 16 conditions in the past five years, they will be required to provide detailed explanations of the treatments, medications and current status.

Unless these plans were dirt cheap why would you bother to enroll?

They're much cheaper than other non-exchange insurance policies, of course, for incredibly good reason. But the young, healthy people they will naturally draw will further weaken the guaranteed coverage Obamacare system that depends on a good portion of young, healthy enrollees.

Once there are plans that accept only people without pre-existing conditions people will flee to those plans, leaving only the very expensive population to buy the fully compliant plans.
That is the exact situation that led to $100/month premiums for healthy people and $1500/month premiums for people with pre-existing conditions. (The cost disparity in Ohio just before implemetation on the ban on pre-existing conditions. People with pre-existing conditions could get insurance through their employer OR during the once a year limited enrollment in the plans that had to accept all applicants unless they were hospitalized at the time of enrollment.)

(51,594 posts)This is the crap that the GOP is pushing. It is the equivalent of a bandaid and a tube of Neosporin. Any person with an IQ over 100 will realize this, especially one who has a preexisting condition. Voters who were too gullible or stupid to know that Obamacare was the same as the ACA woke up when they realized it was going to be taken away from them. DUH! NOW that issue is the BIGGIE! The majority of voters in both parties are concerned about health care more than any other issue. If the Dems run on this alone they will win.
