(9,353 posts)I would love to be more optimistic but McConnell is running the rig right now. No way they let this slip.

(229 posts)I think maybe tonight or tomorrow the scheme becomes more apparent.

(7,633 posts)Since Jeff flake is retiring, he can do whatever the hell he wants to do. Hopefully senator coons convinces him. It's just being reported that flake wants to talk to coons.

(9,353 posts)I know we now have Heitkamp but what about the other blue dogs?

(7,633 posts)For all the criticism Manchin takes on DU, he never ever had been a deciding vote in favor of the GOP. He may vote yes if it's already 50 or 51 but wont be the deciding one. His whole schtick with his voters is to appear bipartisan. Voting accordingly when its already decided to fool the west virginian repubs.

(46,051 posts)If the Repigs have the votes, Manchin's vote isn't important for the confirmation. He (and other Dems in red states) can safely make themselves look "bipartisan."
Since the confirmation has become less assured, we've heard nothing about Dems voting for Kavanaugh. In fact, Heitkamp came out with a strong opinion on why she won't vote for him.
Now, there's even some (very little) sign that Capito, the R from WV, may be listening.

(7,633 posts)That day, he was confronted by women activists in the Senate elevator. He then talked to coons and reverted calling for the investigation. He has yet to announce his he will vote now.

(9,527 posts)McConnell is both a blithering idiot and trying to corral a party caucus that has some serious rifts. Not as significant rifts as the Republican House caucus, but significant and growing as Republicans in less red states are looking at reelection in upcoming years with the conflict between Republican primary voters and the rest of the public.

Call the Senate NOW! This means men too!
87% of the calls have been made by women...why is this considered a woman's issue? It is a human rights issue!
Call the Senate Judiciary Comm this week...
https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/about/members
Call them and tell them that they will NOT get reelected by the majority of the US who is against Kavanaugh.
Call all senators and tell them that they are HYPOCRITES and you only vote for reps who have morals and values and who respect women. RESISTANCE WORKS!

(5,376 posts)He is my senator, and I told him that Flake played him and the "investigation" was a sham.

(4,609 posts)This was all about Flake making a grand gesture, and if his own party have essentially lied to his face and tossed his request in the trash, then it's a blow to his ego. He goes from being a Great Conciliator to the court buffoon. Susan Collins is comfortable in that role, but I don't think Flake is.
That's what all the "walking him through" stuff is about. Republicans are trying to spin this as a win for him, Democrats are trying to convince him he looks like the biggest sucker on the planet.

(386 posts)than the other thread's spec that the Flake-Coons powwow is because there's something harmful to Kav in the FBI's interviews of 9, count em, 9 people, all of whom were carefully pre-selected by McGahn, Grassley and McConnell so as to do Kav no harm.
Hope I'm wrong, and its about more than just Flake fluffing himself better.
