(3,975 posts)TRUMP IS THE SIDESHOW FREAK, KOCHS ARE THE RINGMASTERS
Cottage cheese with ketchup was Richard Nixon's favorite meal. There, you've had your levity, now I'm going to make your blood run cold. In 1917 Fatima, Blessed Mother embarked on a comeback tour appearing to three Portuguese kids giving them three Prophecies. The Lady hit a chilling bullseye. Two World Wars and "Russia spreading its errors" were forewarned.
What if there had been a fourth Prophecy? I'll take over for Fatima now. America will cease to exist, returning to the Gilded Age and a rebooted confederacy, destroying the equality of all its citizens. Trump's America is small potatoes in comparison to a Koch America. As we've seen with Trump's election, 25% can do enormous damage to society's norms and the operation of government. While we are distracted by Trump's tweets, the Kochs have been playing the long game, quietly. Corporate media use the latest technology to dumb us down as steadily as if they were standing on a stool pounding our brains with a frozen ham.
The brothers are this close to getting Kavanaugh on the Court. Their goal: The first ever Section 5 Constitutional Convention, radically changing our Constitution. Unlikely scenario? So were Brexit and President Trump. In the works for 50 years, the groundwork has been laid.
They aim to repeal the Bill of Rights. Our Constitution is already the most restricted of majoritarian democracies in the world. We have four veto points. Most have two or three. These guys are so greedy they want to add more. The Kochs want to effect a Constitution not of checks and balances, but one of locks and bolts. They've been lining up authorizations and have 29 of the 34 states needed. Three linked measures were just fast tracked in Wisconsin. They have 10 Liberty Amendments teed up and ready to go. Their "Balanced Budget" Amendment would end Social Security, Medicare, the New Deal and the Great Society/Civil Rights.
Universal Voter ID, installing Christianity as the law of the land, revoking the 17th Amendment(Senators used to be appointed) are all in there. State Governments are easiest for corporations to capture and preempt. The Kochs own 30 states, putting a chokehold on progressive policy.
Republicans are aware they are the permanent minority and Americans will never accept their version of America. How do they get around that? Hijacking the Constitution. Fatima warns be vigilant and actually read the other side's stuff. Trump is their misdirection tool while the rich change the game permanently. Kochs are working overtime(they're aging) to set up a government to do their bidding, now.
There are times we can feel destiny closing around us like a fist around a doorknob. It won't budge. Terrified? You should be. Kick in the jamb. Vote while you still can.

(14,564 posts)As another reply noted, it's the state legislators that need to put the application in. I'm seeing a lot of responses here that will G Democrats are going to make gains.
Democrats had control of a number of the states that have applications in when they made gains in 06 and 08. They never withdrew those applications.
This is something the Democrats either don't understand the importance of or quite frankly or in on. A number of them actually support a constitutional convention where we would get our asses absolutely kicked, because like this Supreme Court battle the Republicans have been fighting this fight for decades, have a game plan, and they're going to play just as dirty as they have now at the Supreme Court.
I know there's a lot going on and it's hard to keep track of it, but people need to TuneIn on this one.

(36,745 posts)It is happening as we speak and will accelerate if Kavanaugh is confirmed. The SCOTUSs legitimacy is definitely in question if they both occupy seats.
MJ legalization at the state level and the CA net neutrality law are proving my point. These two are examples of state law challenging the federal ones.

(14,564 posts)They have been fighting the Constitutional Convention battle for decades, just as they've been fighting this Supreme Court battle. It's the same concept.
They take it these deadly serious, have a plan, and will play just as dirty with this Constitutional Convention s*** is they have with the Supreme Court nomination.
The Democratic party has absolutely no thought relative to fighting this.
Democrats made big gains at the state level in 06 and 08, and took control of a number of states that had these applications in. None of those States withdrew those applications before Republicans took control again.

(3,032 posts)No state will send all white men. That would be electoral suicide. They will have to be representational. Big states like California and New York will be in there and EVERYTHING will be up for debate. Electoral college? Two senators for pissant states? How about recognizing people as people and corporations in a different class? Make abortion a right? Net Neutrality? It all comes into play.
Republicans win when nobody pays attention. Even the slightest attention breaks their weak coalition of old conservative white people. You don't think people would get engaged when this process starts? Conservatives throw out the constitution has a mobilizing ring to it.
If nobody engages in this process but conservatives, you are right, but that is highly unlikely.
Even now, your suggestion of rescinding the call for a convention is a start. That could be a great mobilizing cry right there.

The current impeachment powers do not give the people a quick way to remove incompetent or ill presidents, in his view.[
