Republicans are not worried that they cannot find another conservative to replace Kavanaugh...

They are worried that the election may happen before they can vote on another nominee and that the Democrats may win the Senate?

It is all about politics. It is not about Kavanaugh being such a great nominee. Many Republicans are probably turned off by the whole process? But if they are to lose the Senate, at least they can get another Justice on the Supreme Court.

It is pure power politics. The rest is just blathering nonsense.

I imagine that if Democrats win, Schumer will threaten McConnell with all sorts of nastiness once Democrats take over.

more embarrassed to confirm someone in a lame duck session than confirm an ill-tempered gambling binge-drinking sexual predator. They want Kavanaugh specifically, not one of these other Federalist Society short-listed people. Why?

I think it IS about politics and power. The want Kavanaugh because Trump laid down his marker on Kav twice by nominated then sticking with him, and they won't truly irrevocably cross Trump because of what that will do to their standing with the GOP base.
