Trump tells his audience that politicians should be lying lowlifes with no integrity, and they rise to their feet and begin cheering.
It's like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, when Jack Nicholson has everyone cheering at a baseball game on TV that is not turned on. They have no idea why they're even cheering, they just do it like Pavlov's Dog

(10,024 posts)They want their team to win regardless of the means to get there. Lying, cheating, stealing, pillaging is just fine as long as the other side loses. They have pretty much said they are okay with rape, can murder be far behind? Truly scary.

(3,493 posts)Not just Al but the entire party folded on that one. We lost one of our best for no reason at all. Taking the so-called high road does nothing for us, we look like fools and weaklings. Theyre just better at the game, way better. They dont give a fuck about norms, standards or rules. They play the hardest of ball to win with no holds barred.
And thats why they control everything.

(6,143 posts)if they had given Franken a pass. Granted as allegations against Franken were BS and even if true pale in comparison. But Republicans would use it attack Dems as hypocrites.

(3,493 posts)The difference is, they dont care how it looks. Just reverse the roles. They were all calling for Franken to resign over his nonsensical allegations but theyre sticking by their guy here.
They play to win.

(9,527 posts)Al Franken apologized for mistreating women. I'm not sure how that qualifies as folding. It's taking responsibility for his actions. And it has helped fuel the rising gender gap that has put us substantially ahead in polling for the very gerrymandered House, has the Senate as a possibility with seats up for election that should make that impossible. You may have noticed that we've got a record number of women candidates, that we're running candidates everywhere and raising money in record breaking fashion.
And if "they control everything" remind me why the ACA still stands, same sex marriage, the first two versions of the Muslim ban, why they were forced to change course on that whole family separation thing? Why did Scott Pruitt and Tom Price have to resign in disgrace? Why are they having to scramble so desperately to get Kavanaugh confirmed?
Sorry, the evidence is clear they don't control everything.

(3,493 posts)And talk to me after this scumbag is confirmed and rules on those cases that will inevitably come up before the court. You know every single one of them will. And RvW? Bye. Voter rights? Bye. Worker rights? Bye. Anything that might indict Тяцмр and his treasonous cohorts? Good luck.
Having all three branches of the government means you control everything. And they have that control because theyll do whatever it takes to win, they treat it like a life and death fight while we concern ourselves with decorum and honor.
Replace Franken with any GOP Senator in that situation, what do you think they would have done? I guarantee you theyd still be sitting there today ranting and raving about nonsensical conspiracy theories and defending Kavanaugh. They would have fought tooth and nail, especially when the main evidence was an obvious joke picture. And they would have had the full backing of the party.
Diapers Vitter got a standing ovation from them after being caught calling hookers from the Senate floor.
Pruitt and Price only left because Тяцмр got sick of them, not because he thought they did anything wrong.
I disagree with you.
