This is bigger than the Supreme Court.
This is about respect and equality for women. This is about ending violence against women. The times, they are a'changin'.
Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come. ― Victor Hugo.

(111,103 posts)Sexual assault is violence. The violence must end.
How can so-called leaders belittle a woman in this way?

(5,229 posts)did not vote for rtump. That figure is for white women. About 40% of all Women voted for him. Too high, but hopefully they have learned since then.

(10,012 posts)I cant remember the exact words, but there was an interview recently with a woman and her two daughters in which she dismissed the allegations against Kavanaugh and excused sexual assault as just something that women had to deal with and it was no big thing. Both teenage daughters nodded their heads in agreement. Im mystified by this attitude, but it really supports the whole boys will be boys idea and women should just put up with it. It also smacks of the age-old idea idea that its the womans fault because she somehow invited the assault by her own actions. In spite of the greater publicity around sexual assault today, the U.S. actually has one of the lower rates of assault when compared with other countries (https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/25/health/sexual-harassment-violence-abuse-global-levels/index.html).
We can and should do more to prevent assault. One point that stood out to me in reading the report cited was that many men around the world believe that they own public space and that women in their space are thus subject to mens actionssort of similar to the irrational notion that rape is just sex by another name and women have sex all the time so its no big deal. I hope this increased attention to sexual assault results in many more parents having more discussions with their children, but they do not have an easy job. We live in a society where kids are influenced by much more than just parents, including easily accessible online sexual materials, popular music, and performers who touch themselves sexually and simulate sexual actions in public performances. I do not envy parents today.

(24,324 posts)They are the same people they were before they were elected. How can ANY human being behave like that? Their intellectual and emotional growth was stunted at some very early point in their lives.. by any number of experiences.. or influences.
Not many people are born this cruel.. I hope.
The 'women' issue has always been there, of course. Only now are THEY being called out in this way.. Well, not only now.. I think you know what I am getting at. But, they have the same attitude toward everything.. toward all 'lesser' beings and ideas. And you, my dear, have three strikes against you before you even get up to the plate.. ARRGGHHH!!! Woman, 'black' and from Jamaica !! "Where? Where is that? Africa?"
And if you don;t have a lot of $$$, a fourth strike. And if "old" a fifth strike-unless you have a lot of $$$ and are also a cruel selfish bastard.
And they don't even wonder, or care, how such a 'useless' HOT country as Jamaica can have an olympic-quality bobsled team !
Eh, sorry for carrying on..... You and Yui are my 2 favs....

(7,142 posts)but so much more. Kavanaugh is a monster; he is anti-immigrant, anti-minority, anti-working men and women, anti-affirmative action, anti-democracy. He believes the president can't be indicted or even investigated.
Oh, he is pro 2nd Amendment, the NRA has filled his pockets with cash.

This is about turning their base against the MeToo movement to force republican women
To pick a side. Hell, tRump is saying the same thing about Al Franken that most people here said.

(7,142 posts)I live in central Pa. amongst them, I don't even try to argue with them. My 85 year old golfing buddy told me the biggest mistake our country made was in 1920 when we gave women the right to vote. He told me that "before" Kavanaugh.
The only other right wing justice who is comparable to Kavanaugh is Clarence Thomas. Kavanaugh is off the charts to the right if he gets appointed.
Nice touch comparing DU posters with Trump. I do agree with you that Franken should have had the opportunity to defend himself. Republicans are Swift Boaters, they go after the cream of the crop Democrats. They go after Democrats who are changing the narrative. If it weren't for Al Franken we wouldn't have the Mueller investigation.
Now they are going after Michael Avenatti because he is changing the narrative and yes there are a few here on DU who fall for the propaganda. We need to stay united, keep our eyes on the brass ring, the November elections.

(7,142 posts)my 85 year old golfing buddy wasn't born misogynist or a bigot, he was taught. He told me, "my granddaughter isn't all bad, she hates minorities and blacks."
Republicans have succeeded in getting followers by not being "for" something, but by demonizing Democrats and progressives and whoever. Democrats are being asked by cable news anchors if they will support Nancy Pelosi for Speaker? Why? She was one of the best Speakers ever. Republicans with the help of the corporate media have demonized the mere mention of her name. Ask any Republican what is so bad about Nancy Pelosi and I bet they have no answer.

How about asking him or other similar men that question?
Is it just what guys who weigh under 250 have to deal with?
