I hope

I truly hope that the other nations of the world are more measured and rational then we are. I hope they recognize that this current Administration is an aberration. That we have temporarily lost our minds, and are doing everything we can to get right again. That we are not this guy.

If they don't, we are in a shit ton of trouble.

That is exactly how I feel every time he opens his ugly mouth on behalf of our country.

What I mean is that we seem to be drifting away from the idea of democracy and rule of law in favor of blind nationalism and looking to demagogues for our security. A segment of the population anyway--the ones who have not had personal experience with and respect for democratic order. The under-educated. And there is a world wide trend toward nationalism and populism. I don't know how to reverse it, except that our children need to be taught more about the value of democracy and experience it personally in school, in the form of student council activities and other groups where they can vote for leaders and be represented democratically.

If Trump goes, there will still be people on the right willing to try to take power, and people willing to pledge their fealty.

It's like a weird virus brought on by rapid changes in the world and culture, economic hardship and other stresses. That's not going to slow down any time soon so we have to adapt.

I met a couple from Australia when we were in Europe 6 months after he took office. They totally hated all Americans because their news paints a picture of America worshiping Agent Orange. They only show drumpfs' base, not the opposition. Last year we were there with a couple from Scotland and a couple from New Zealand, so had no issues with American hating, thankfully. Of course our friends understood how much the majority of Americans hate him.
