What does a Democrat have to gain by doing this? Ok, I get it Tenn is a red state, but don't the people who love Kavanaugh likely plan on voting for Blackburn anyway?

Don't get me wrong, I am for ANYTHING to keep that cretin out of the Senate, but I still don't understand the play. Is this to get "moderate Republicans?" Are there any of those even left? Or are "independents" going to vote for him because of this.

if his campaign's internal polling shows that a bunch of his marginal supporters also want Rapey McRaperson on the court, he's got to take that into account. his approach is entirely unsurprising and probably strategically sound.

someday maybe Democrats have a senate majority again. until then, candidates need to do what it takes to win in this fucked up environment.
