Time for a new word to add to the Lexicon of our times:

We need a term that can describe how some individuals will contort their reasoning skills in order to support and/or favor misbehavior in the people they relate to.

When I hear people on the right excuse Kavanaugh's outbursts by explaining, "they made him do it", it just brings back all the images of privilege that we have had to fight through.

And, it's time to give it its own term.

1. Something other than hypocrisy?

Unprincipled? Corrupt? Spineless?

2. I think we need someone who specializes in Latin to find the right root words.

We need something that reflects extreme prejudicial favoritism + Machiavellism

escape-gloating - malignant scapegoating used to escape responsibility for self-control

4. I think the term "tribalism" works.

If you believe that "your people" can do no wrong, reason takes a back seat to group identity. It's always somebody else's fault.

5. I would start with tribal, but probably extend it to tribal protectionism.
