A silver lining, maybe? Or wishful thinking?

The pundits have said, recently, that the Kavanaugh story energized the base. That, until now, Democrats were more energized to vote, but the gap shrank.

Thus, can one hope that once the vote is over, that the deplorables will crawl back to their rocks and stay home for these elections?

1. The only silver lining about this is that it makes the blue tsunami more likely

As angry women (and many men) will crawl naked over broken glass to get to the polls on November 6.

More spine in some of our Democrats and if Kav is not confirmed. I see that as more of a motivator. If we actually won something once in a while, less people would be embarrassed to vote for us.

... dampening a blue wave. As I understand it, the concern is that Kavanaugh not being confirmed will motivate the deplorables to vote out of some kind of retaliatory, poke some eyes delirium, thereby shrinking the effect of the wave, not the size. I suppose that’s a reasonable theory - and certainly one of the ad tactics we’ll see from their campaigns.

Also, the Dems who long for dem leadership to show a spine are not going to be missing this Nov. - we will vote hard no matter what. It’s the soft middle that is really going to count this time around. They don’t pay close attention. They are vulnerable to losing motivation if we lose the sense of urgency.

7. The deplorables vot no matter what, rain, shine, broken glass to crawl through, doesn't phase them.

... I think it was different in 2016. I’ve posted about this before. Here in Alabama there was a lot of press in September ‘16 about record new voter registrations. Usually good for us. But I saw what counties were at the top of that list. They were the deepest red counties in the state. No way those were dem votes.

I think trump brought out a new breed of depolorable that had remained in the shadows not really participating. Not the tea party, triangle hat wearing pic nic idiots we saw on the news. I’m talking about the truely scary assholes who make you want to leave a place when they show up.

Historically they DON’T vote unless they really get their hate on. They hate government. Don’t want their identities known. Don’t want to get on confiscation lists. The SC crowd and their ilk. 8 years of a black dude, and trump’s overt racism lined them up around the block in 2016. Those people tuned the election in ‘16, I think (among many other coalescing factors).

They might sit it out this Nov unless they are riled up.

They both owe their fortunes to Soviet industrial assets. One in the building, the other in the seizing.

more motivation to vote for Dem candidates for some level of damage control. The reality, though, is that even if Trump had nominated a better-behaved, less controversial candidate for the position that person would have had the same retrograde judicial philosophy as Kavanaugh. They're going to the mat with K only because they (and Trump) can't afford to be seen as losing a battle. I am hoping their strategy backfires bigly; the nomination of a "normal" conservative wouldn't have generated this level of fury (some, yes, but we knew any nominee would oppose Roe v. Wade).

Change their vote or stay home if the seat is filled.

If just 4-6 %of Republican voters react this way then it would have a significant impact.

They have 2 strong points of attraction 1) stop abortions 2) stop Trump. Take away 1) they will pursue 2)
