then Joe Manchin just betrayed the party for nothing other than his own political ambitions.

(29,205 posts)on rapist Kavanaugh.
And he just lost his own base.
I would be surprised if he doesn't lose 60-40 or worse.

(25,253 posts)after it was apparent that Kavanaugh would be confirmed? Just thinking that the mission now is to save Manchin's seat and win the Senate for the Dems.
But it might be a miscalculation and
Manchin will lose his Dem base and not pull any appreciable Repug votes and lose his seat anyway.

(13,776 posts)This like playing chess. Think of the long game, which is sometimes hard to do. Having Manchin in the seat counts as a D when the senate majority is decided. Its really important. Were never going to get a liberal D in West Virginia. But at least we have a D now when the majority leader is decided.
Seriously, I wish it was different, but it isnt.
Remember, the Rs play the long game. Thats why theyre now controlling everything.

(1,819 posts)It's absolutely disgusting this happened. But I don't see how this is a loosing scenario for Dems in the midterms. If anything this will motivate those registered voters and new voters that don't normally vote in midterms.

(2,785 posts)but that's short term. The long term effects of this could be a disaster unless we get back the house, senate and Presidency asap and expand the court.
