Where did DT win a greater percentage of votes than in any other state?

WVA, where he won 68.4% and Hillary won only 26.4%.

So it's a miracle that any Dem got elected to the Senate there. I'm sad about Manchin's vote, but I'm not angry. With Flake and Murkowski both voting for Kavanaugh, his confirmation is certain. Manchin was not the one who put him over the top. And if voting for him helps us keep a seat in the Senate -- a Senate in which we only need 2 more seats to take control of ALL the committees -- then so be it.

He will often not be voting as we'd wish, but if we get the majority control, our majority leader will determine which bills get a vote in the first place. And which judges even get a hearing.

But if we win the Senate in a month, we will cool down, or at least I will

Take your post as being extremely reasonable and as the best way to close my eyes and sleep at night. Thank you. Its amazing what 2 years of an opposite administration can do to the legacy of 8 years of solid stewardship under Obama. Talk about a thankless job!

5. He could have forced Pence to break the tie. And he didn't need to insult Dr. Ford.

I suspect his double digit lead in the polls will actually decline.

my point is about the people of that state and why we won't be getting much better from there.

11. Trump promised them lollipops and clean coal and that they would not have to change.

Hillary told them the truth, they would have to change with federal help, improve their schools, get industry besides coal.

15. I mentioned Hillary's 26% in West Virginia in another thread a couple of hours ago

I follow that stuff closely for betting purposes, and my so-called Partisan Adjustment Number (PAN) for each state.

I've done this since 1992. I used to post the numbers here for every state. No state has come close to shifting like West Virginia has. For reference, in 1992 the West Virginia PAN was +7.4% Democratic, since Bill Clinton carried the state by 13% while winning nationally by 5.6%

Fast forward to 2016, where Hillary loses West Virginia by 42.1% while winning nationally by 2.1%.

So that a red PAN of 44.2%, and a net change from 1992 of 51.6%

It looks like a typo, but it not. That's how much West Virginia has changed in a quarter century, in terms of how it votes compared to the national number.

Granted, and as I mentioned in the other thread, Trump's bullshit promises regarding the coal industry and restoring jobs helped to inflate his margin over Hillary in 2016.

I'm annoyed at Manchin because I'm convinced he's a wimp. I'm sure he sweated out Collins' stance at least briefly because he didn't want to vote No and jeopardize his own race. Eventually I'll come back in his direction, unless he uses the Democratic Party finances toward re-election and then changes parties, like another wimp -- Richard Shelby -- in November 1994.

I live in Arkansas - as state nearly as red as W. Va.

We used to have Democratic elected officials who routinely voted with the Republicans. What our former Democratic elected officials learned is that voting like a Republican will not buy you any votes from Republicans but it will cause Democrats to stay home.

Machin was leading in the polls before this vote. He will likely yet win, but this vote will cost him some Democratic votes and gain no Republican votes.
