Women stand in solidarity with Dr Ford and #Me Too and take a knee at events that play the National Anthem. Women kneel together in solidarity against oppressive men and laws in our society. Spread the word through social media. RESISTANCE IS PATRIOTISM!
*Or a different stance/action that is visible, easy to do, and a strong message. Any ideas? A fist in the air?

(1,148 posts)Taking a knee was and is a beautiful statement by athletes expressing their love and respect for their brothers and sisters killed by police. I don't think another group should overwhelm that clear statement.
I think there is enough creative power in women that they can think of something else. And they should support black people in taking a knee against police violence.

(22,357 posts)as the carceral state is based on the idea that white women must at all costs be protected from black men -- would have been solidarity. Running up now and saying "sorry I didn't speak out earlier, dudes, but shit has gone to hell for me and I see that kneeling during the anthem is a way to piss people off, for sure!" is opportunism and appropriation.

(440 posts)Taking a knee really belongs to the Black Lives Matter movement, and I would hate to try to co-opt their message.
Instead, what if women and their supporters turned their backs to the flag during the National Anthem? There's a lot of symbolism there -- national leadership has turned their backs on us, they're trying to turn back time (with a Roe v. Wade reversal), we're turning our backs on Kavanaugh supporters, etc.
#TurnItAround would be a more positive take, as in, "We're going to turn this situation around beginning with the 2018 midterms."

I might do it, but I need to warn my kids that there will be social backlash for them.
