I read his entire statement a few times and no where does he make that remark.

Yet, somebody posted a tweet attributing that remark to Manchin and a lot of folks at DU are attacking him for it. Where was it said? To whom?
Before cursing the guy out and throwing the kitchen sink at him I think he at least deserves a fair shake. I think the "confused" comment attributed to him is bullshit.

(8,003 posts)As far as I'm concerned, Manchin is not the vote that gives Kavanaugh the seat. We need a majority more than we needed him to vote no on a done deal.

(8,702 posts)That young girls see a Democrat throw them under the bus for political convenience should really inspire them to vote. I know, maybe they should take Hatchs advice and grow up.

(45,107 posts)This is against all women.
We need to stop being defeatist and letting ourselves be lead around by the nose to appease the republicans.
Women vote more consistently, year after year and there are more women than men in the US but some cannot seem to understand that how we vote, how we are perceived on issues that matter to women, will decide majorities, not how much republican ass we kiss.

(8,003 posts)and I care very much about women. I also believed Dr. Ford. I did not believe Kavanaugh, nor do I think he has the temperament for the Supreme Court. His outbursts and anger at the last hearing were disqualifiers.
To vote against Manchin would give us a Republican this fall. That would be infinitely worse.
EDIT: BTW, I think my attitude may come from having lived in Indiana for most of my life. I had to learn to be content with any Democrat we could get elected.

(45,107 posts)that if it wasn't true or could be proved a lie. I haven't got though the whole thread yet to see any tweets from women who took part in the meetings with sexual assault survivors.

(14,249 posts)But doesn't think it was Kavanaugh.
The only explanation is that he is claiming she is confused
Perfect illustration of white male privilege - despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary, manchin just can't wrap his mind around the possibility that Kavanaugh did this. The degree of the benefit of the doubt given to white men by other white men is astounding.

(14,565 posts)I've heard it all over the place.
Meanwhile, the odds on that being true are next to nothing. Anyone who stretches to that conclusion has a brutal grasp of probability, to the point they are setting aside the overwhelmingly likely base normalcy in favor of a cartoon version.
When I lived in Las Vegas I used to have litmus test questions toward newcomers on the sports betting scene, and especially the loudmouths. It was wonderfully effective. I needed to gauge their instincts, whether their opinion was worthwhile. If I were still there and doing the same thing, this would be one of the questions. And anyone who said Dr. Ford was assaulted by someone else would immediately either be ignored or used as a bet-against.
