in November. I was confident but now I worry that this will give them more enthusiasm as we get closer to Election Day. Republicans already tend to vote more than Dems during midterms. Will putting an attempted rapist on the Supreme Court be enough to get our base out to vote? Will the young people really show up? Will the young people worried about gun violence show up? Will the minorities show up? Did everyone forget about how the Trump administration separated those children from their parents? Were they paying attention when McConnel, Graham and Grassley did all their sneaky shit? If we cant pick up a lot of seats in the era of Trump and his corrupt group then I dont know what to think. If we cant win then, when will we win???
Im gonna stop worrying myself about it. Im going to volunteer this month. Then Im going to get myself and my family to the polls. The day after the election we are going to Disney. I will either use Disney as a way to escape after a loss or as a celebration of a win.

(5,586 posts)My fear is that Thomas will announce his retirement next year if Repubs retain control of the Senate. And of course there's always the fear for Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her age.

(58,785 posts)Good plan as a way of getting ready for what will come next if we don't get control of congress.
They are already now coming for legal residents whose status is being stripped by the flimsiest of false excuses, of course separating many families. Soon those victims will be joined by LGBTQ, all too possibly Muslim citizens, and other easy victim groups.
Then they would come for women who want abortions, of course, but that's known now. What's not known is just what their coalition of authoritarians determined to put an end to losing to voter majorities, social conservatives, religious right conservatives, anti-regulation and anti-tax centimillionaires and billionaires, white nationalists and supremacists, including misogynists, would do in what order to re-form our nation and ourselves to suit them.

(382 posts)I know this makes DU people mad but Dems are STILL barely devoting much time and resources to the extreme likelihood the Repubs will flip another election to keep control of Congress no matter how many races we actually win. We won in 2016, but we lost because we gave up too soon on recounts and court challenges. Russia didn't steal 2016. Republicans did...again.
You better believe the Repubs have everything in place to flip any race that isn't a landslide! So even though we will win, we will lose, if we don't stop wasting time raging about all the cheats and liars inflicting harm and destroying our country. What's done is done. Now is not for self-righteous indignation. We have a landslide election to focus on. No time to waste energy on anything else. A close election is a lost election. We can't just win. We have to win big.
Exact revenge AFTER we win...if we win.

(10,721 posts)Well, I guess that depends on your expectations. 30% turnout among those 18-29 would be considered quite good.
