Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis is simply a monstrous moment in our history. Collins' speech defined a deplorable moment.
It has been hours, and my anger has barely ebbed.
We will of course do what we can to get out the vote. We will vote ourselves. We will participate in fund raising.
But what we are up against - who among us truly trust that our vote will count - or be counted? How many Democratic voters have been disenfranchised, or removed from the voter rolls?
My biggest frustration is seeing how so many of humanity are showing such stupidity, meanness, shortsightedness, ignorance - how many are being fooled - or frightened - into voting against their own interests?
This is not meant to be a defeat post - but I can't be the only one who feels like after nearly two years of rock bottom, we are going even lower...how much lower can we go?
And most important - how do we dig out of this with an emboldened right wing, a false pride group of deplorable idiots who can't reason or think themselves out of a paper bag making major decisions? Harming so many - whether women, families being separated, so much more.
It really is somewhat of a bizarro miracle that a courageous woman can come forward and bare her past and her soul and be attacked - and be attacked by other right wing WOMEN (shame on you Susan Collins).
We have a media that for the most part has NO IDEA of how this game is being played, going down the false equivalency road at every opportunity.
I don't know....I just don't know....

Where Two Men Normally Sit Two Women Flank Sen. Susan Collins During Kavanaugh Speech]
Senate Republicans appeared to rearrange floor seats on Friday so that two women, instead of two men, would sit behind Sen. Susan Collins R-Maine, as she gave a floor speech about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., sat behind Collins during the afternoon speech, but those seats are assigned to Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., and Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark., according to an official seating chart.
AFTER EDIT: Not sure why its not hyperlinking as it should be.

But I'm of course with you. This is a very dark and dangerous, monstrously dangerous, point in our history.

(6,139 posts)the counry will be paying for it for decades. Elections have consequences. We have to learn from rethugs - they are much more organized and united when it comes to voting; they are not easily swayed, stay firm and tribal no matter what; They have built a strong propaganda network over the years and we have not. And they have energized their voters today like never before. It wont surprise me if well see record turnout in midterm elections, perhaps from both sides. trump is following his pre-election agenda point by point and quickly like no other president, restrained only by the current courts but thats changing rapidly.

She wanted to blame the democrats for taking advantage of Ford but she is the one who took advantage of ford and ignored the plight of millions of women.

(43,190 posts)that is rare in a Supreme Court nomination. We've tried compromising our way to success, and to normalcy. We've been rolled. Reaching across the aisle doesn't work. It was a 1970s solution. This is capitulation to business interests, just like after the Civil War. People think money is all that matters. Progressive women millennials hold the keys to the future. We need to educate voters. Most Americans don't understand politics. Look at the success rate for incumbents. If they've heard of him, they vote for him. He's a good guy, he lives around here. They don't understand issues and how they impact one's life.

(14,565 posts)That is easily our greatest opportunity to take advantage of this. I've been posting it since Trump was elected. Talk show punditry and elevator challenges mean nothing compared to long term benefit of registering first time voters during this stretch with Trump approval rating very low and young people in particular opposed to him.
Those new registers may not vote this time but once they have that D on their voter roll and start receiving related mailings, etc. the vast majority are locked in for life. Even the ones who register independent right now -- and that is an extremely high percentage -- will likely be Democratic leaning.

And in 2020 with a Dem pres and Dem Senate, we are going to add FOUR justicies to the supreme court. I'd like to start with Merrick Garland ... and Barack Obama.

They won the PR game with the "I'm sure it happened to Dr Ford, it just wasn't him" meme.
We need new leadership. We need people with the same values - but with at least an ounce of "2018/combat Trump's sickening MO" savvy.

(36,478 posts)I'm beginning to think there are just too many ignorant & apathetic assholes & that we will have to hit rock bottom before they get a clue. We don't have time for this fucking shit. By the time most Americans wake up to what's coming down the pike in terms of climate, it will be too fucking late. Our government will be wholly controlled by the very rich, white men who brought us climate change with their short-sighted, "everything for profit" mentality.
The human race is about to get knocked down a few pegs.
