Presidential popularity when a person turns 18 is a great predictor toward how they will think and vote all their lives.
More often than not, obviously. As a gambler I am always interested in the cheap advantage of more often than not, and don't care about anecdotal evidence the other way. Obviously there are millions of exceptions among the Silent Generation, including both of my parents and high numbers on this website.
Trump came along at a time in which there were still enough members of that generation both in congress and especially on the voter rolls. He would have had a considerably more difficult time, if not next to impossible, a decade later.
