(1,595 posts)I'm not sure about President but democrats need an attack dog on the side. I don't think going high has worked for us.

(6,931 posts)Let him run for president! There's plenty of time. For the moment he is a necessary and welcome voice.

(2,275 posts)He's just more forthright. That's not stooping to the level of the Republicans at all. He and Michelle Obama are not incompatible on the "If they go low, we go high" thing. They should do a special TV thing on the subject... (fold in Stormy Daniels?)

(3,344 posts)But I'd support Avenatti if he won the primary. This criticism of Booker is nonsense. Avenatti almost sounds like he's saying "Only I can fix it!", just like someone else we know.
I'm looking for young experienced politicians like Booker before wildcards like Avenatti.

(89,262 posts)in the end it's still just about having more democrats in office regardless of how they are.
also people like Corey booker usually are limited in how they respond becsuse of bigotry.

(22,011 posts)So far DOTUS isnt afraid of anybody but he sure seems to be afraid of avenatti. We need an attack dog like Avenatti to kick him around and get under his skin as Avenatti's done so effectively in the past few months.

(34,467 posts)the way to go. I dont see that as arrogance, but just how he feels after watching the events of the past few years.

(89,262 posts)what he quoted implies something that isn't true about booker.
spooky3
(34,467 posts)There was very little he could do in the last week because the Republicans refused to allow his client to be heard or investigated. And he clearly was holding back because he was respecting Democrats concerns and waiting and hoping that the FBI would contact him. AFAIK, his client did only one TV interview.

(89,262 posts)booker is limited in the same way any democrat is . but it doesn't mean booker has not been tough and isn't a fighter.

so he can work without the restraints of Congress.
Avenatti can be the bulldog who doesn't have to bit his tongue.
Hope the Dem pols see that and have back channel communications with Avenatti.
Not likely though as many of our politicians have presidential ambitions and may see Avenatti as a possible contender also.

(19,460 posts)Booker, Schumer and others could be holding press conferences every day. They could be refuting publicly everything Trump says that is a lie. They don't have to bite their tongues that's just what they tell you they have to do. What you are calling restraint, we refer to as spineless in our home. This is exactly what Avenatti has been saying and he is not wrong.

(53,833 posts)the repugs hold the Speakership, Majority Leader position and all the committee chairs. We have no power in that regard...can't hold hearings, investigations or issue subpoenas.
I'm a fan of Avenatti's and want him to continue what he's doing.
If we want more like him we have to elect them and not look to the milquetoasts to suddenly become something that they aren't. One of them even railroaded the outspoken Franken out of the Senate.

(73 posts)Great to see we have people with different skills sets on our side.
I like em both
I love Avenatti for his streetfighting brawlers, take no shit and punch back twice as hard attitude
I love Corey for his compassion and respect.
We need them both to speak to the entire range of our party and reach as many as possible that are not in the party.
Keep up the great work and thank you both

Sometimes my mind wants to listen to Corey help us aspire to he better angels of our nature
But then sometimes Im so mad I want Avenatti to take those angels and kick the ever loving shit out of every republican in sight

(13,877 posts)Kind of above the whole sordid mess of partisan politics. The Rs have no problem getting down and dirty. That's how we seem to end up in these messes. That's why I'm a Democrat but also sometimes why I hate being a Democrat. Go figure.
But I Love Avenatti. We kind of got him not in the usual way...which is an understatement...and maybe why he hasn't been "sanitized".

but i don't think booker is naturally that type.
but he is still tough and a fighter.

(33,400 posts)Senator Booker is limited by law and the rules of the Senate. The latter is more restrictive. Ask Senator Warren how unevenly those rules can be invoked by McCONnell.
Avenatti is only limited by what the law allows. Unless and until Repugs completely corrupt the SCOTUS, political speech is still the most protected speech there is. It's actually quite hard to libel or slander a POTUS. Even a fake POTUS.

(13,877 posts)In fact we don't have another D with any political street fight impulses, like the Rs do. Funny...the closest we have is a 1/2 black woman (Harris) and a black man (Booker). The Rs don't have to worry. They have a party of angry old, white men.

(89,262 posts)i think need people like that outside political office and good people inside.
but you can't expect those who need votes to get into office to behave in certain ways.
it works for republicans becsuse they are a bigoted party of white people agsinst everyone else.

(4,066 posts)Some people don't have the luxury of throwing temper tantrums or rasing their voice. African American men cannot be angry like Kavanaugh or Avanatti.
When they are they are scary to people.

Democrats say Avenatti undercut their case against Kavanaugh
https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/06/politics/democrats-avenatti-swetnick-accusation/index.html
Asked if Avenatti was helpful, Peters said: "I think we should have focused on the serious allegations that certainly appeared very credible to me that would be our best course of action."
Privately, the assessment was far more scathing.
"Democrats and the country would have been better off if Mr. Avenatti spent his time on his Iowa vanity project rather than meddling in Supreme Court fights," a senior Senate Democratic aide fumed, referring to Avenatti toying with the idea of seeking the Democratic presidential nomination. "His involvement set us back, absolutely."
A Democratic senator, who asked to remain anonymous to speak candidly, said: "Not helpful at all. I think Susan was always yes, but Avenatti was a useful foil."

So I have no problems with either of them.
