White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Wednesday that Trump will address the International Association of Chiefs of Police on Monday in Orlando.

"As the largest gathering of police leaders, the president will speak about the work of the administration to protect American communities by restoring law and order, supporting local law enforcement, and securing the border," Sanders said.

Gov. Rick Scott plans to attend the event, his office confirmed, but couldn't provide any other details.

The Tampa Bay Times has asked the campaign of former Rep. Ron DeSantis if he plans to attend. This story will be updated if it responds.

38. If you're going to be a totalitarian dictator, you need the unquestioning allegiance of two groups:

the police and the military. My dad was a US Marine and a cop, and has been a lifelong Democrat. It seems like a lot of his Marine Corps buddies (he served in Korea) are anti-TRUMP, but he tells me most of the cops he knows (and he still knows quite a few) are hardcore TRUMPers.

So when TRUMP goes on about "our beautiful troops and our wonderful first responders" he's just trying to get the support any dictator needs. Doesn't matter if it's Hitler, Stalin, Kim or whomever- if you're going to rule with an iron fist you need the police and the military.
