So many people are so riled up and ready to vote, they see the change that's needed and will drive it home! I live in N. FL in a purple area that leans red and still the Dems and Independents I talk to are excited and engaged. Tonight we got an additional 10 people to agree to volunteer for the party.

(7,632 posts)This is one instance where maybe that's not a such a bad thing.
I went to a gun show once and there were so many WP and Aryan Nation prison tattoos around one had to wonder just how it was they were allowed to purchase and carry weapons.
Yet there they were in their dozens.
Oh, BTW this was in Florida.

(10,908 posts)Hispanics comprise 16.8 percent of the state's 16 million residents but make up 13 percent of the inmates in jails and prisons.
So Hispanics are a little bit underrepresented, while blacks are overwhelmingly overrepresented in the inmate population.
In total blacks + Hispanics are nearly 65% of the jail and prison population (48% + 16.8%), leaving only 35% for non-Hispanic white, Asian, and native American, and whatever else.
On edit: well darn, it says
Well, blacks = 48%, whites = 46.5%, black + white total = 94.5%... so apparently the 46.5% figure for whites includes white Hispanics. And some Hispanics are also black....
I know this is not the same as ex-felon proportions, but probably pretty close.
Anyhow, everything I've ever read is that keeping ex-felons from voting is a tactic by the Repukes to tilt the electorate their way -- disproportionately keeping minorities, especially blacks, from voting. And that it's mostly red states by far that have ex-felon disenfranchisement.

(1,546 posts)Is the polling off for some reason?

(103 posts)I seriously doubt that the polls can take into account the enthusiasm we are seeing on the ground here. And I believe that poll was likely voters.... Betos whole campaign has been about getting unlikely voters to the poll. There was a huge democratic turnout in the primaries here compared to 2014, the increase being much larger than the republicans. We just have to GOTV! 😊 I try not to get pessimistic with these things.... I turn my pessimism into action!

Thanks for sharing that! I had not seen that and its a great way to look at it. Thats not to say tho, that I will be okay if he loses....lol. Im taking the day after the elections off, because either way, I may not feel well enough to work! I just hope its because Ive celebrated too much, and not that Ive cried myself dry!

It gets even worse: Twenty-three right-wing groups, including a Mitch McConnell-linked super PAC, are spending more than $10 million to buy our Senate seat and trust me, that kind of money goes a long way in North Dakota.
That's why we're going to need to hit every single fundraising goal between now and Election Day. With just hours until midnight, we still need to raise about $11,000 if we want to take back the Senate for Democrats. But right now, we're falling short and time is running out.
I hate traitor Mitch.
