Biden says he has no plans to run in 2020 -- 'at this point'

Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Despite polling numbers that show he would do well against President Donald Trump, former Vice President Joe Biden said Wednesday he has no current plans to run for the Democratic nomination in 2020.

After speaking at London's Chatham House, Biden told reporters he has no intention "at this point" to run in a Democratic field that is still pretty wide open.

"I think there are many people in the Democratic Party that can defeat Trump," he told CNN. "And I am not one at this point.

"I'm not being rankly partisan here -- the president acknowledged at the outset he didn't know a lot about foreign policy," he said of Trump. "He said he watched the news, although I think he's getting more and more informed out of necessity."

… he's saying, "At this point, I'm still (almost) in." He's one of many circling inside the ring, hat in hand. I think they are all trying to reserve an "opt out" role. I think that's a good idea.

... I do think that a few attempt that... Elizabeth Warren seemed to do that well, in 2016. I've noticed that it is easier to talk about it when you're not thinking about running. They like to have the "big announcement" moment and don't like to announce too early and burn out or seem like an early loser.

AFTER we get through THIS upcoming election.

Any candidate announcing even an interest in running for president now distracts the 'Squirrel!' media from our amazing candidates that are running in an election we very much need to win and win big enough with to send a strong message to Trumpublicans and the world that, to paraphrase the movie Network, we're "mad as hell and [we're] NOT going to take it anymore".

IMO, we need a younger leader to pick up the banner.

Corey.... Kamala....

I love Tammy Duckworth too, but I doubt she will do it right now.
