Against the Wind, Bob Seger.
I can say aloud amen to that. I didnt know there were so many racists and assholes in this country. Until the advent of the Dotard.
And I now understand how dreadfully easy it was for Nazi Germany to go the way they did.

(52,227 posts)the right-wing has dreamed of a moment like this ever since fdr. they couldn't figure out how to sell it to america, and the defeat and atrocities of the nazis was a big setback for their movement. right-wing wackos like the john birch society were viewed as, well, right-wing wackos and they couldn't get any real traction.
then they hit on the plan of taking over radio and right-wing hate filled the airwaves. then foxnews came along and added visuals (from scary videos and graphics to aryan female legs) designed to appeal to potential and actual the right-wing authoritarian mindset.
slowly, they started to corrupt the political process, making it easier and easier to manipulate the results with money, propaganda, and shady way to conduct the actual vote (ids, registration, disenfranchisement, voting machines, polling places, etc.)
finally, they are at the point where millions blindly accept whatever they say, not matter how ludicrous as "truth", and they object violently if anyone tries to contradict them. it's now dreadfully easy for donnie and other right-wing leaders to manipulate what passes for national debate.
but it took decades of investment to get to the point where it is dreadfully easy.
