what American politics looks like now? KanyeFuckingWest advising the US President? On live, national television? I can't express my horror. I'm actually starting to cry, I am heartbroken for America. I just can't even............

TV as a political tool was a novelty back then. We really haven't come that far in all these years.

(63,221 posts)It is beyond Twilight Zone level of bizarre and shocking. I am beginning to think it will never end or that we will all go mad before it does.

(5,495 posts)Were a country of idiots with an attention span of 5 seconds. Most important in politics now is the ability to entertain. The clueless dumbasses in this country want a show, and truly believe everything will be ok no matter who they elect to office.
The next shiny thing is all that matters.

(6,699 posts)"Nation of morons" has been my cry. Ever since I made my first travel to Europe, I realized that the USA was FILLED with people I was ashamed of. The "ugly ameriKKKan" was everywhere back in the late 60's. They still are. Only problem is, all the closet doors have been opened, and now we can plainly see just how fucked up our fellow citizens really are.
This is an age of shame for me. I was always hoping I was wrong, but ever since the teabagger movement, I've been confirmed rock solid. We ARE a nation of morons...I'm I'm not talking 5% here...more like about 50%. Just really sad.

(51,593 posts)This is WAAAAAY more important than the silly little things in the fake news today...a huge natural disaster in FL, a journalist was murdered by the Saudi Prince (Jareds best pal), the DOW is down over 400 points again, same old, same old. Yes, Kanye is a DISTRACTION and is a crazy, narcissist exactly like his orange best friend.

(17,984 posts)Very important while Trump campaigns millions are devestated. Then to have that Jackass in the Oval Office . Correction,2 jackasses is horrible. Obama would not have given him the time of day.
Trump will be in Lebanon,Ohio tomorrow. I texted my so to make sure he got there early. He just called me to say he had an extra ticket for me. neither one of us would walk across the street to see Trump.
I remember when Bush was there. They put huge busses around the Golden Lamb so the crowd could not protest him.

(7,888 posts)the never-ending shitshow part. Not my idea of entertainment, unless you are into gladiator fights to the death in the Roman Colosseum. Barbarians on our metaphorical borders and a real enemy within.

(1,606 posts)today's "populism" is a twisted, tortured, and largely unsuccessful effort on the part of individuals to express a coherent conception of a great, great many discontents on all fronts, but especially social and economic.
Where do the convoluted paths of many discontents lead? For each individual this is an emotional journey, and how the effort coalesces in a political stance is a great unknown. It seems that the Dotard is a magnet or "refuge" of sorts for the discontented and confused, and he is exploiting them quite effectively. Bernie did much the same, but for much nobler and principled intents, IMHO.

(4,165 posts)Yes, the chaos. But more than that he wanted a VP who would do the daily work of running the government so he could just do the " celebrity" work. Proof is that all 45 is doing is rallies for attention and ignoring hurricanes. Except I Don't think the VP is actually running anything or has a voice in policy. 45 has his cabinet and agency directors ripping apart everything that is good and decent.

Right? Right?

OK Cheeto, you don't want to pay for campaign air time? Fine, we're not showing it!
The American media have given him free airtime since before 2016 and it was worth millions of dollars.
It's a big reason why he got elected too.
