This is the first of a couple of lawsuits to be filed https://www.politico.com/story/2018/10/11/georgia-naacp-voter-registration-lawsuit-842679
The injunction would seek to reopen voter registration in Georgia to ensure that 53,000 registrants on hold in Kemp's office and possibly others affected by an outage of the Georgia Department of Driver Services and the state's voter registration website would be allowed to register for the upcoming election.
The move was confirmed by to two people with knowledge of the NAACP of Georgia's plans. The last day to register to vote was Tuesday.
The strict policies enforced by Kemp's office for voter registration and verification have been under scrutiny in his campaign against Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, who once ran a nonprofit focused on registering new voters.

(32,704 posts)Outrageously corrupt and unethical. He is making decisions to purge hundreds of thousands of mainly black voters. This is surreal! But at the same time, Kemp has ignited a lot of rage and fury. Even if the cheating and unethical behavior is allowed to stand, he could still lose.

The exact match law has drawn criticism from voting rights groups that say it could suppress voters in the upcoming election for Georgia governor between Republican Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams. Kemp is Georgias secretary of state, responsible for oversight of elections and voter registration.
The lawsuit alleges that the law, passed by the Georgia General Assembly last year, has a disproportionate impact on African-Americans, Latinos and Asian-Americans who want to become registered voters. About 80 percent of applications put on pending status were submitted by those minority groups, according to the lawsuit.

(145,242 posts)The term outside agitator has a long history dating back to the Jim Crow days. Freedom riders and persons attempting to register non-whites in the south were often called outside agitators. Kemp is using the Jim Crow terminology today because he was caught https://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/brian-kemp-outside-agitators-voter-registration
Though Kemp was perhaps referring to the national media and his gubernatorial opponents out-of-state supporters, he used a racially charged term to defend a policy viewed as an attempt to keep low-income and minority residents from voting.
Despite what you hear or read, the numbers are clear. While outside agitators disparage this office and falsely attack us, we have kept our heads down and remained focused on ensuring secure, accessible, and fair elections for all voters, Kemp said in the statement. The fact is that it has never been easier to register to vote and get engaged in the electoral process in Georgia, and we are incredibly proud to report this new record.
The statement touting the voter registration statistics came after records obtained by the Associated Press earlier this week revealed that a secretary of states office policy kept 53,000 people from registering to vote. The policy allows the state to delay or block the registrations of residents when information on their voter registration form does not match exactly with existing state records
