(1,729 posts)the person who attempted to assault me was a white, privileged male. At the same time, I understand its only anecdotal evidence.

(2,275 posts)This post was equating sexual assault of women to men being kicked in the nuts (for tone-deaf men).
Great analogy
(everyone was discussing a link and so I figured I'd "out" the topic)

(23,340 posts)Tennis balls, softballs, bicycle crossbars, and possibly a kick or two during a scuffle.
In most cases, there is much pain, much laughter by onlookers. But, a few minutes later, or half an hour later, maybe with an ice bag, and voila, good as new, back in the game.
The pain of sexual assault is not gone in half an hour, maybe not gone in half a lifetime. The consequences are far-reaching.
No comparison.

(13,991 posts)as her saying that a lot of men ARE homophobes and would freak out if they were touched by another man. I could be wrong though, I am all the time lol.

(22,976 posts)I know, the author admits to that. I have some extremely strong opinions on the utterly unforgivable aspects of assault and rape of women. But being a man with no shared-first-person experience, I don't feel that it's appropriate for me to trot out my thoughts. Time and again, women have courageously shared their stories, which, sadly, often makes them even more vulnerable to harassment.
Simply said, I support all women 100% in this struggle. Each day, I do everything in my power to stand with them in every regard.

(9,070 posts)Speaking on the societally-macro level, empathy has been largely a one-way street when it comes to gender dynamics, Moxon told Bored Panda. In my experience, women are empathetic toward men, while men tend not to be particularly empathetic toward women.
Put another way, women have to think about what men are feeling as a matter of survival. Men arent in a similar situation, and so, if they dont want to, they dont. And, by and large, we dont want to.
ariadne0614
(1,729 posts)That part jumped off the screen and grabbed me by the throat. Our social conditioning is the result of millennia of survival strategies.

(11,566 posts)These quotes from the article accurately describe where we are as a country:
"The Kavanaugh confirmation proves once again that one of the primary drivers of our society right now is normalized abuse and enablement of abuse, Moxon added. In such a society, the telling of wrong is itself seen as the wrong. Its unutterably sad. Its why the country has a bully with the mind of a cruel child as president, supported by power, cheered by crowds.
I think you can see, if you want to, that there is a powerful political party that doesnt care about women at all, and thinks not caring is good. I dare hope more of us see this clearly now then we did before.
To say the least, the veneer of civilization is very thin and we have very far to go.

But I am still pissed off at the outcome, and how illegal sexual assaults are not being taken seriously by white rich frat boys who then turn into ole rich white men.
