(508 posts)To many people, it is like taking a final exam, or a test for which one does not know the answers. Make it known that one does not have to fill out the whole ballot. One can just vote for the candidates of one's choice and ignore then rest. Believe me, this is an issue with many people.

(58,785 posts)with civic events similar to the Fourth of July. Voting in a democracy is infinitely more important than merely celebrating the establishment of our nation.
Plus, we need to switch emphasis from the highly inappropriate and voter-suppressing conservative attitude that voting is a privilege to voting is a duty for all adult citizens. Make it mandatory for all but the disabled or otherwise unable and for conscientious objectors, who must register and swear, and periodically renew, in government offices.
Note that mandatory voting would require keeping records for each election for each person (!) and that being assessed unearned fines for not voting would greatly amplify anger and action after election tampering.
And since SCOTUS has felt that voting in November doesn't allow time for a proper recount if the election is questioned, let's move election day back to September or October when, thanks to climate change weather should still be warm enough in most of the nation for parades, concerts and speeches in parks, fairs, fireworks, etc.

(6,696 posts)Democracy 101 is protecting the rights of someone to stand up and say that which I'd spend my life trying to defeat.
I'd rather them support progressive ideals, but I want all the votes to count. I want everyone to be engaged and asking questions.

I grew up watching my parents vote, in the booth, and in line with neighbors. As an adult I never considered not voting. It's just what you do.
