Regretful Trump voters tell CNN why they've turned on 'the dictator in White House':

CNN

A panel of former Trump voters on Monday told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota that they deeply regret their decision — and now they’re going to back Democrats in the 2018 midterm elections.

Independent voter Anthony Miles, who was attracted to President Donald Trump’s outsider status in the 2016 election, said he was hugely disappointed in the president getting caught up in one corruption scandal after another.

“He said the system was rigged, and he said he was going to be a new sheriff in town,” Miles said. “And all he’s done is surrounded himself with crooks. How many people have been indicted who are in close cahoots with him?”

Miles also referred to Trump as “the dictator in the White House.”

So, our choices are: 1) welcome them back and build a stronger Democratic coalition, or 2) ostracize them as racist, sexist, bible-thumping xenophobes. Choices, choices...

It appears to me that it is only a handful who are realizing the cost of his handy work and they are now getting cold feet. They are just like Germany's victims who worshiped Hitler and Mussolini and reveling in their bloody conquests. They vast majority didn't mutter a syllable of descent as they ship millions of Jews, homosexuals, mental patients and dissenters to their death. They didn't have an ounce of compassion until they stood in the rubble of the cities bombed into oblivion and their fellow conspirers in abject evilness dead reduced to living in retched conditions. These people who are undergoing a moral enlightenment are not the victims of their self centered greed, it is the helpless who are the victims. They are the enablers of his evil policies that have denied medical care to millions, children who they would really care less about their daily struggle to even get enough to eat to survive. These are the same people who have consistently voted for a party that is solely dedicated to the enrichment of the privileged class. These are the same people who gorged themselves on the hatred spewed by the extreme right wing propagandists who dominate the airwaves 24 hours a day.

Sorry, but I am not impressed.

The people there's no use in reaching out to is Joe Smith who wears his MAGA hat every day, listens to Rush Limbaugh for three hours and then Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson at night and loves Trump because he "owns the libtards!!!"

If you think that this one "focus-group" of sane people is going to offset the hundreds, if not thousands, of focus groups you've done over the past two years in every shithole in Dumbfuckistan, 'Murika, where we've had the pleasure of being told that "racism, sexism, white supremacy, cruelty, fascism and idiocracy" was just "the other side of the same coin", you've got another thing coming.

Please understand that when sane people are once again in power in our country, SOME OF YOU ARE GOING TO GO TO FUCKING JAIL FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO OUR NATION

No amount of "death-bed conversions" is going to change your fate. It was baked in the minute you started broadcasting hours upon hours of an empty podium with "Breaking News" flashing in the background.

If they are sincere, then they will vote with us. We shouldn’t have to coddle them or even welcome them. Their bar is obviously way lower than most decent human beings. It’s no sacrifice to refrain from voting for a POS so horrible he’s made America gravely ill, with racists and Nazis crawling out from the sewers again. The people I appreciate and have deep respect for are those who’ve been fighting the good fight and doing the right thing for decades, and still haven’t given up hope.

independent swing voters or whatever the heck they want to be. IM old enough to remember before the days of identity politics - when a certain no. of voters voted for purely pragmatic reasons like pulling the pendulum back to center. Or to maintain checks and balances in govt.

Its a good thing that at least some are waking up and seeing this mess for what it is. As Ive been telling my tea party sibs, you don't have to like democrats to want a functioning two party system where one serves as checks and balances to the other.

That being said, let them vote democratic, and let them prove they mean that vote. Clearly trump was a racist and a misogynist during the campaign. They voted for that, because outside of that nothing trump said on the policy front made any sense. If they have remorse let them prove it. How many people have been hurt or even killed because these people decided to enable trump's behavior? Blood is on their hands.

This is the lesson from countries that escaped from authoritarianism and those that didn't. The anti-authoritarians have to put aside past differences and unite against the common enemy. In our case this will include people on the right who wake up to the danger their own candidate presents.

It's not that they suddenly want universal healthcare or converted to #metoo. It's that they value democracy over other things and are willing to put those issues aside until the danger passes. As should we.
