Link to tweet
Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) told Fox and Friends on Tuesday that he would be taking a DNA test, and that he thinks he can "beat" Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Ma.) in terms of the amount of Cherokee heritage that it will show.
"I've been told that my grandmother was part Cherokee Indian, it may all be just talk, but you're gonna find out in a couple of weeks because I'm gonna take this test," he said.
Warren released the results of a DNA test Monday which strongly support[s] her claims of some Native American ancestry. This move has been seen as an effort to respond to critics, primarily Trump, who have repeatedly claimed that she is fabricating her heritage.
Trump went as far as to promise to donate $1 million to her charity of choice if she took a DNA test.
When asked if he also wanted $1 million, Graham joked that he "wants a casino and a million bucks."

(37,161 posts)Warren mentioned a bit of family lore. It's Republicans who invented an issue out of it.

(1,698 posts)Grahams DNA result showing he has a higher Native American content has absolutely no bearing on Elizabeth Warrens. These people have all lost their damned minds. Ridiculous. The clown has his circus trained to make the world laugh. YAY (Sarcasm)!

(279 posts)In the 1800's, claiming any Indian blood in your ancestry would get you ostracized in society.
Nowadays everyone wants to claim such heritage like a badge of honor. For the true Indians out there, it's a form of flattery that people nowadays wants a piece of your DNA. Whether they have it or not.
Personally I don't care how much ancestry either has. Their merit and actions determine who they are.
I think Lindsey Graham is an asshole, even if his genes showed 100% Indian, he'd just be an Indian asshole in such a case.

(11,742 posts)It is to set them up to do precisely this. Continue being assholes, which is fine for their smaller base, but which will eventually piss off regular Americans.
Graham is taking this to stupid levels. His response to the "million bucks" question is telling. He doesn't see Native American heritage as something which connects you to your family history. He sees it as a way to try to get additional benefits.
He's mocking the idea that Native Americans are able to set up casinos on tribal land. That was his joke. If he has Cherokee heritage he would use that to try to gain some kind of advantage. Something that Warren has not done.

(22,590 posts)It just would mean he has Native American ancestry exactly as Warren had claimed was the story in her family.
I had heard a story that my great grandmother was a Native American, in fact a Cherokee but then the geography would point to where that tribe resided. Nothing much else but then my father's family were poor cotton pickers way down south. So I did the 23and Me DNA test and surprise, surprise...I had zero Native American ancestry. So much for that story. I do have 3% Neanderthal DNA and some would say that explains a lot about me.

(14,157 posts)This statement supports the fact many Americans have been told by rumor or family lore that they may have Native American ancestry. He kinda supports Warren's case about Family legend being pass down thru generations.
