Something's fishy about the attempted assassination plot against Trump

There's a recent story in the news that the Secret Service prevented an assassination attempt on Trump's life during his trip to the Philippines. Here's the link to the Newsweek story:

Something doesn't add up here. To begin, the sourcing of the Newsweek story is painfully thin. There are no quotes or facts elucidated and the evidence is nearly non-existent. The Newsweek report is entirely quoted from a National Geographic cable TV show.

More importantly, it is a long-standing-- and presumably unalterable-- policy of the Secret Service that they do not comment on operations or security protocols. Ever.

Therefore, how did National Geographic and Newsweek get this story? There's only one way: the Trump administration leaked it.

I'm sure a lot of people thought "Oh, well if National Geographic said there was an assassination attempt, then it must be true."

Not any more. It needs to be fact checked as well. Can't (or shouldn't) be used as a primary or secondary source anymore.

would be more news on it. Perhaps the fact as you say there is so little info. on it, and other media outlets can't verify it from multiple sources, they don't report on it, which makes sense. Got to be hundreds if not thousands of news tidbits out there that are not true. Misinformation is out there, and I'm almost certain that the Russians and the like are flooding the airwaves w/ all sorts of 'stories'. Fortunately, most of us are skeptical now of news such as this post (preventing the attempt)...
