For the media their motive is to create controversy and attention hoping it will attract viewers, and for the right wing it is hoping to divide and distract, and for some of us it hits our trigger button, and we start focusing on this when we really need to be GOTV, and going to the courts where voters ballots are getting thrown out, try to stop the voting suppression that is occurring before it is too late

They're trying to build ratings. No one will watch the news if it appears there's going to be a big blowout for one side or the other, so they have to make it "horse race," or "50-50." It has happened in every elections since W and his daddy's friends on the SCOTUS stole the election for him -- get rid of real exit polls, install non-verifiable voting machines, then say every race is a horse race. It's purely about ratings. I don't think CNN or MSNBC care who is watching, as long as they're panicked and watching.
