on Pennsylvania Ave. The FBI building is falling apart. GSA had worked out a deal with a developer for them to build the new FBI building at another site, and in oayment, they get the large parcel that the Hoover Bldg is on. They would get to develop it as multi-use, and a 5-star hotel would probably be built.
That plan got scrapped, and the FBI building is going to be rebuilt on its current site. The head of GSA testified to Congress under oath that the FBI had told them that they wanted to keep the FBI building there.
Rep. Elijah Cummings has proof now via emails that Trump ordered the GSA to abandon those plans and rebuild the FBI building on site. He didn't want any competition for his DC Trump Hotel. Changing the plans creates a huge mess and is a terrible waste of money.
A Democratic House can investigate the likelihood that trump broke the law.

(205,927 posts)It was placed in a "blind trust" for the duration of his presidency - he received no information it at all. And this was the family farm that he was responsible for, inherited from his Dad by Jimmy, his mother and three siblings. When he returned to Georgia in 1981 he learned that there was a huge debt caused by mismanagement and three years of drought. He only saved it by selling the Carter Warehouse to pay down the debt. And included in the farm property was the Carters' home which Jimmy had helped to build himself, he could have lost that, too.

(33,643 posts)How are you going to rebuild on the 'same site' without moving them out to some temporary facility while you tear down the old place and build the new one?
I can't even believe something so fucked up is even being considered. There's NO WAY they'll be able to do their jobs NEARLY as successfully stuck in some temp facility for probably 2-3 years.

(37,161 posts)Gotta wonder who might be renting rooms facing that building, and what sort of equipment they might have there.
Seems like a convenient site to eavesdrop, if you have the right tools. And it might be harder to arrange that sort of access if the FBI were to move out to the burbs.
Just wondering.
