As the 2012 Olympic flame was extinguished in London tonight, President Obama exhorted a group of loyal supporters huddled in the front yard of his Hyde Park home to adopt the Olympic spirit and sprint to the finish in this highly competitive presidential race.

"I just want to remind you this is not going to be a race like Usain Bolt where we're like 40 yards ahead and we can just start jogging 10 feet before the finish line," Obama said of the Jamaican gold medalist known as the fastest man in the world. "We're going to have to run through the tape."

The president was playing host to 100 donors to his re-election campaign who paid $40,000 apiece to attend. The event, his third of five fundraisers scheduled today, was expected to raise more than $4 million for the campaign, according to Democratic officials.

1. Running the 100 meters at 9.5seconds is hardly jogging the last 40 meters

We should be like Usain Bolt - he won all those golds for the SECOND time because he DIDN'T jog at the last 40 meters when he thought he was ahead.

The only time runners like these slow down is during the preliminary rounds when they are up against weaker opponents and they want to save themselves for the big race.

Bolt slowed up crossing the line as he led a Jamaican 1-2-3 in the men’s Olympic 200 meters at the Olympic Stadium, raising his finger to his lips in what looked like a failed attempt to silence the 80,000-strong crowd’s deafening roar.
